A fund for all seasons

The Christmas Fair Fund, which was founded by a group of young farmers’ wives in Stanger in 1952, recently held its 61st Christmas Country Fair at Collisheen Estate, near Ballito in KZN.

There were more than 1700 visitors and about R200 000 was raised, said fund chairperson Michelle Blake.

The Christmas fair is the fund’s major annual fundraiser, but four other events top up the coffers: a golf day, a bridge day, a designer fashion show and an evening gala event. The fund has raised more than R1,6 million since 2002 alone. It has no administrative costs – all money goes directly to the projects it supports.

“Beneficiaries need not only live in rural areas, but also in our local community, and include a retirement village, a home for the physically and mentally challenged which had its government funding cut by 40% this year, the Hearts that Hope and rural library projects,” said Blake.
