Inclusion in the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World index is determined using 12 quantitative sustainability indicators, including the amount of revenue companies generate per unit of energy consumption, the ratio of CEO to average worker salary and lost time injury rate.

Monsanto has been ranked fifth among US companies and fifth globally in the materials industry. The company scored well in energy, greenhouse gas and waste productivity and also in leadership diversity and innovation capacity.

Jesus Madrazo, vice-president of corporate engagement at Monsanto, said the agri company was honoured to be recognised as a sustainability leader on the Global 100 index. “We know farmers and society are facing new environmental challenges and we’re committed to innovating and creating ways to help feed the growing global population while preserving our natural resources and supporting our people and communities.”
