Bergsig Estate wins big at Terrior Wine awards

Bergsig Estate, in the Breedekloof, received the Novare Trophy for South Africa’s Top Wine Estate for the second consecutive year, as well as the Novare Trophy for South Africa’s Top Terroir Producer.

The estate entered 10 wines, nine of which received above average scores. It produced two national winners, with the Bergsig Touriga Nacional 2013 winning the Top Touriga Nacional wine, and the Bergsig Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2013 winning the Top Cabernet Sauvignon.

This wine was also chosen as one of the SA Terroir Top 5 Estate Wines.

Another top achiever this year was Springfontein Estate, situated between Hermanus and Stanford.

The estate’s Springfontein Limestone Rocks Gadda da Vida 2013 won the National Winner for Pinotage, and its Springfontein Limestone Rocks Whole Lotta Love 2014 won the National Winner for Red Blend.

Both these wines were also selected for the award for South Africa’s Top 5 Estate Wines.

The estate also received the Novare Trophy for South Africa’s Top Single Vineyard wine with its Springfontein Jonathan’s Ridge Pinotage 2013.

The estate wines selected for the 2017 Novarre SA Terrior Top Estate Wines included: Bergsig Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve 2013, Lisha Nelson Cabernet Franc 2014, Lourensford Ltd Release Noble Late Harvest 2014, Springfontein Limestone Rocks Gadda da Vida 2013 and Springfontein Limestone Rocks Whole Lotta Love 2014.

This year marked the 12th anniversary of the Novare SA Terroir Wine Awards, with more than 320 entries.
