The department had also reportedly already established a National CA Task Force mandated to establish a CA forum in each of the country’s nine provinces.
This news emerged at a recent conservation agriculture farmers’ day hosted by Grain SA at Zunckels, in KwaZulu-Natal, and aimed at crop farmers on communal land.
“Between January and August of this year DAFF has a number of activities planned to promote conservation agriculture across the country,” said William Makobe, a resource conservation officer with DAFF.
According to Makobe, these activities included tasking the Agricultural Research Council to develop a national policy for CA, releasing a CA promotion strategy document to role-players across the country, developing and implementing an accredited tertiary education level course on CA, and establishing 14 CA demonstration sites across SA.
Makobe also said DAFF intended hosting or facilitating the hosting of many other CA farmers’ days across the country.
