Qoboshiyane said the livestock would enable local farmers to “be active participants in the economy of the country” as well as the province’s agricultural economy.
They invested R5 982 900 to buy 372 livestock that will be handed out to farmers.
“Later in this financial year we will distribute about 1 600 genetic improving livestock as part of the Eastern Cape livestock production improvement scheme to other beneficiaries,” said Qoboshiyane.
The livestock included Brahman, Nguni, Simbra, Bonsmara, Brangus and Beefmaster bulls and Dohne Merino and Boer goat rams.
