Farm labourers dead in train collison

A freak accident in Mpumalanga involving a train and truck has left 19 people dead and several others injured.

The accident happened at a level crossing which runs parallel to the M4 in the vicinity of Hectorspruit. A coal train collided with a truck with around 44 farm workers on board. It is believed that the train pushed the truck a further 200m down the track.

According to ER24’s Andre Visser, emergency personnel arrived to find a ‘gruesome site where bodies were strewn across the floor’. Emergency personnel and a medical helicopter were dispatched to the scene, to attend to the wounded and transport the critically injured to various hospitals.
