The organisation said in a statement the incident took place between 6am and 7am. The farm house was set alight but it is not yet clear as to how the farmer died.
The police have deployed trackers and a helicopter to search for the perpetrators.
Tommie Esterhuyse, chairperson of Free State Agriculture’s Law and Order Committee, said the organisation was shocked by the incident and hoped that the persons behind the murder would be apprehended soon.
He encouraged Free State farmers to be extremely vigilant and to become part of the FSA safety structures.
The name of the deceased had not been released yet.
