Zimbabwe’s department of veterinary services is carrying out vaccination of all cattle in the affected areas amid reports of a shortage of vaccines and manpower. The worst affected areas include Gutu, Zaka, Bikita, Mwenezi and Chiredzi.

“We are working hard to ensure that the situation is under control,” said Hubert Dzinasha, a veterinary department official.

“We’ve dispatched teams to the affected areas, but a shortage of vaccines, manpower and a lack of money by our farmers to buy their own vaccines remains a challenge in our efforts to contain the disease.”
