Report highlights world energy issues

A total of 1,3 billion people are still without access to electricity, according to the World Energy Issues Monitor 2014.

This report, which comprises the views of more than 800 energy leaders from 87 countries, was launched at the Africa Energy Indaba in Johannesburg on Tuesday (18 February).

It also highlights the importance of renewable energy for Africa, where there’s huge potential and opportunities.

The Issues Monitor helps to define the world energy agenda, track its evolution over time and analyses the trends and outlook in six world regions in 24 countries.

The report stated that there is an unprecedented uncertainty in the energy sector. “The pressure and challenge to further develop and transform the systems to secure a sustainable energy future is immense,” it said.
