Despite the move to technology, global demand for wood is set to triple, with wood removals from natural forests and plantations increasing to 13 082 million cubic metres by 2050 from 3401 million in 2012. Projected global expansion in forestry plantations between 2010 and 2050 is 251,8 million hectares, according to Rod Taylor, Director Forests: WWF-International.
