Dear Jonno
We’re interested in building a one-bedroom cottage on an old level stand in Irene. We thought of an open plan lounge, dining room and kitchen. We would like the bathroom positioned so that guests can access it without having to enter the main bedroom. We would also like ample cupboard space or a walk-in cupboard.
We would like to incorporate bay windows and some stonework to make the cottage look attractive and add an outdoor entertainment area. The position of the land will allow for a long, narrow building about 5m x 12m that’s north-facing and looks onto a large pin oak tree. The driveway for the main house and cottage will be located behind the cottage.
Please indulge us with your lovely ideas in a sketch. Attached is a plan of the existing house and an old site plan.
With appreciation,
Heather

Good day Heather,
Thanks for the site plan and positioning of all existing buildings. It certainly helps with the specific location of the living-in and living-out areas. A garden cottage like this has many advantages for the young or elderly, for security and for additional income, amongst others.
Unfortunately I couldn’t quite make out the styling of the roof and house from the existing house plans that you sent me.
The rendition here is of easy construction and should blend with your main house quite easily. I’ve made the living area open-beamed to create a feeling of space as the room is so small and narrow. Heather, please send me a photo of your existing home and I’ll make any necessary aesthetic adjustments when I draft your final plans.
Thanking you,
Jonno
