This easy-to-install device prevents fuel from being siphoned from fuel tanks. Chris Nel reports.

Siphoning of fuel from vehicles in the transport and logistics industries is often considered a sensitive matter because innocent drivers could be implicated in the behaviour of criminals. TruckProtect distributes Instant-Fit Neck It, an innovative one-piece aluminium device which fits into the neck of the fuel tank to prevent hoses being inserted to siphon fuel. Once the fuel is in the tank it can’t be removed.
It was designed in the UK and is used all over Europe and the US. It doesn’t affect day-to-day operations or warranties. “Approved anti-fuel theft devices, like the Instant-Fit Neck It, should be introduced in a way to make the driver feel protected, as opposed to castigated,” says Sean Jackson, managing director of TruckProtect South Africa.

The device is designed to prevent fuel theft cases where relatively small amounts are siphoned regularly to avoid detection. “In most cases, the driver is involved, but there are many cases like at truck stops where the pilferage occurs without the driver’s involvement,” he says. “But in all cases where fuel theft is detected, the driver is regarded as the prime suspect.” The Instant-Fit Neck It protects the innocent driver and prevents fuel from being stolen by organised, opportunistic thieves and regular small-scale skims. It costs R1 720.
