A group of Australian lamb producers say Meat and Livestock Australia (MLA’s) 2008 Sheep Industry Projections have underestimated the decline in lamb production this year.
Q Lamb Alliance CEO Reg Crabb said he believed the MLA’s estimated 8% drop is way off the mark. “I believe the drop would be closer to 20% compared to last year,” said Crabb. “can’t see how, after so many years of drought across the country, that the numbers are going to be up there.” The Q Lamb alliance includes nearly 200 of Western Australia’s top lamb producers. – Alan Harman
