Two reports from opposite ends of the planet say many consumers won’t buy organic fruit and vegetables because they believe they are too expensive,
A University of Melbourne report said independent factors such as cost have the biggest impact on consumer’s decisions about whether to buy organic fruit and vegetables. The Food Safety Authority of Ireland’s consultative council said its research showed 54% of Irish consumers have never purchased organic food because they believe it’s too expensive.
“While many respondents indicated they had a positive attitude to purchasing organic products, they were sometimes unwilling or unable to purchase in accordance with their attitudes,” said the Australian report. – Alan Harman
