Agri SA has submitted its misgivings about the draft policy for new expropriation legislation to the departments of public works and land affairs. Agri SA president Lourie Bosman says that as the policy document is currently worded, government ministers will decide when to expropriate and also set the compensation payable. Landowners will only be allowed to ask the court to review that decision. Agri SA is also uncomfortable with insinuations that compensation should be as low as possible, and questioned the draft’s interpretation of the constitution. – Staff reporter
