Give your cattle shade

As we move into the hottest months of the year, when temperatures start to soar, and every living thing is trying to escape from the broiling sun, no self-respecting farmer would be outdoors minus his hat.

But what about the cattle in his feedlots – does he provide shade for them at this time of year? Many do not, when all it would take is shade cloth, wire and a few poles to make the difference between misery and a modicum of comfort. Sure, we’re going to eat them and they are there for our convenience, but isn’t that all the more reason to treat them humanely?
