The man allegedly responsible for the murder of David Green is reported to have said that his motive was robbery. This has put an end to speculation that Green’s assassination-style shooting might have been linked to the unresolved land claim issues on his Rensburgspruit farm.

The KwaZulu-Natal midlands police said they arrested an 18-year-old male. Unconfirmed reports allege that the suspect made a confession to a magistrate and also pointed out the scene of the murder. The police services also announced the arrest of a 29-year-old man in connection with the attack and rape of a female Greytown farmer, who may not be named to protect her identity.

Koos Marais of the Kwanalu Security Desk said that the union was delighted at the arrests, and that it had a lot of confidence in the abilities of the police services. “We would now like the courts to mete out swift and effective justice to the perpetrators of these crimes so that a message will be sent out that crimes against South African citizens are not acceptable,” said Marais. ”People, like the female farmer who was attacked, have the right to live on their own and remain safe and secure.” – Lloyd Phillips
