Miracles abound

I love farming. Farming isn’t a job, it’s a way of life. Anyone who wants to farm to make money should rather buy a bottle store or a KFC franchise and you’d make a lot more. But I can’t guarantee you’ll have the same lifestyle.

I love farming. Farming isn’t a job, it’s a way of life. Anyone who wants to farm to make money should rather buy a bottle store or a KFC franchise and you’d make a lot more. But I can’t guarantee you’ll have the same lifestyle.
One old farmer said to me the only time he made money farming was when he sold his farm, which is quite sad. I know a few farmers who live in town because they got too old to run their farms, and had no one to carry them on and although they live in nice houses I can see they get totally bored. This is because on a farm there’s always something to do. What a beautiful way to bring up a young family.
We’re told youngsters are taught about sex and moral standards, but I remember when my children were young it was through the laws of nature they understood how God created us. My children would be walking with me on the farm and a cow would be in season and covered by a bull. They’d ask exactly what was happening and it was such a normal, natural thing to explain reproduction. A cow would give birth and the children would sit quietly and watch with absolute fascination at God’s creation.
I love farming, maybe because I spend so little time on the farm now. My sons are farming and I spend most of my time travelling. I can’t wait to get back, to walk among our animals and ride my horse, and go for a jog in the morning as the sun rises.
We’ve had families of hadedas nesting in our garden. Over the past 30 years we’ve seen them grow and it’s a wonderful sight.
I love the seasons, summer, spring, winter and autumn and I love to see the seasons change. I also love to visit neighbours’ farming operations and see youngsters coming back and taking over from their parents. I’m a great believer in allowing young people to express themselves in new ways.
I love to look at the sky and see big storms coming up and it breaks my heart sometimes to hear someone cursing the weather, obviously with no idea that without rain they wouldn’t have another meal to eat. I believe when God created this earth He meant us to live on and off the land. I would say to every farmer, count your blessings daily and thank God for the position He has put you in.
There are challenges and you’ll be stretched to the limit, and there’ll be the days you wish you never got into farming. But through the hardest of times, fighting bushfires, dealing with drought, trying to pay accounts, you’ll look back with fond memories because God has been your partner.
