The Mpumalanga departments of Safety and Security, and Agriculture and Land Administration have established a rural safety framework.

Spokesperson Putsoa Makua said the framework, which was created after the provincial rural safety summit last year, aims to improve the lives of farmworkers and working relationships between farmers and their labourers. The framework will also facilitate the implementation of infrastructure projects such as housing and health care. “From the summit we learned that many of the insecurities experienced by both farmers and farmworkers were due to a lack of understanding of what is expected from both parties in terms of the law,” he said. The framework is also responsible for conducting random safety and security research in farming communities. – African Eye News Service
