KZN is to benefit from THE ECONOMIC and bilateral ties forged between SA and Singapore. Singaporean President Sellapan Ramanathan pledged to invest hundreds of thousands of rands in industrial manufacturing, information technology, tourism, trade and economic development for the upliftment and betterment of SA citizens, said KZN premier Sibusiso Ndebele. President Ramanathan and a 65-member delegation comprising government and business leaders paid a three-day visit to KZN last week. The focus of the visit was to facilitate and promote trade and economic relations.
New investment clusters and zones will be identified to facilitate investment in infrastructure and enterprises, including the tourism sector such as hotel and resort development, premier Ndebele explained.
The week prior to his KZN visit, President Ramanathan met with President Thabo Mbeki at the Union Buildings in Pretoria, where the two leaders held discussions on bilateral political, economic and trade issues. One of the issues that topped the agenda at their meeting was free trade between the two countries. Following that meeting, Mbeki said the Southern African Customs Union was looking at a proposal for SA and Singapore to establish a free trade agreement. – BuaNews
