Foot and mouth outbreak suspected in Mpumalanga

A suspected outbreak of Foot and Mouth disease (FMD) in Verena, Mpumalanga is being denied by government who maintain that cattle are infected with lumpy skin disease.

Koos Dafel, chairperson of the Red Meat Producers Organisation (RPO) in Mpumalanga, said that 11 out of 12 tests done on cattle in the Verena district came back positive for FMD. “The government is making all kinds of excuses and denying that there is an outbreak because they are too lazy to deal with the problem. If they say there is a problem then it means they have to do something about it.”
