Government curbs growth in poultry industry

Government needs to implement a blanket duty on all chicken imports for the local industry to survive the onslaught of chicken dumping.

So said Gareth Lloyd-Jones, managing director of Ecowize, at the AVI Africa poultry conference. “It blows my mind that not all imports are taxed. Imports are the fourth largest producer of chicken in SA. We can’t compete with import prices. Some farmers are hanging on by a thread.”
