The KZN SAPS reported that the, as yet unnamed, woman (60), her boyfriend (53) and her son (35), would allegedly have unbranded cattle stolen from a farm in the Dannhauser area. Once these animals reached the suspects’ premises they would be quickly branded with the woman’s registered brand mark. The cattle would then be transported to Ulundi for sale.

“The owner of the farm was losing cattle but he did not know who was stealing them and cases were reported at Dannhauser Police Station,” KZN SAPS spokesperson, Captain Thulani Zwane said. “The woman was arrested in the Ulundi area after she was caught by community members at the homestead where she sold cattle, and they handed her over to the Stock Theft Unit members.”

Police added that they recovered four live cattle, and the skin of a fifth, that were believed to have been stolen by the three suspects. KZN Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant-General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, applauded the Glencoe Stock Theft Unit’s success and also praised the joint efforts between the public and the police. “We encourage the public to continue with their support in the fight against stock theft by providing valuable information that will lead to the recovery of stolen livestock and the arrest of stock thieves,” Ngobeni said.
