  • Tractors: 605 (September 2012: 635), percentage change: -4,7%. Year-to-date, 2013: 5 677; 2012: 6 002, percentage change: -5,4%.
  • Combine harvesters: 21 (23), percentage change: -8,7%. Year-to-date, 2013: 300; 2012: 283, percentage change: 6%.

“While there is still optimism in the market, most farmers in the summer cropping areas are waiting for rain. This is particularly so in some of the central regions and in the west of the country. Soil conditions are very dry in these areas and it will take some significant rain before these lands can be prepared for planting. It is this, probably more than anything else, which is holding activity back in the agricultural machinery market,” said SAAMA.

Current industry expectations are that tractor sales in the 2013 calendar year will be of the order of 7 000 to 7 500 units, between 5% and 10% down on 2012 sales.
