“The Association of Meat Importers and Exporters proposed a statutory levy of 2c/kg on imported chicken products,” stated a NAMC press release.

The estimated income from the proposed statutory levies is between R5,1 million and R5,9 million for 2014/2015.

The NAMC Act stipulates that a statutory levy may not exceed 5% of the price realised for a specific agricultural product at the first point of sale. The maximum of 5% must be based on a guideline price calculated as an average at the first point of sale over a period not exceeding three years.
