Limpopo police said that one suspect was allegedly shot in the stomach by the farmer, while the second was shot while being chased by police officers and local farmers. A third was arrested on the evening of the attack.

Lieutenant-Colonel Malesela Ledwaba, spokesperson for the Limpopo SAPS, said that the attack occurred on a farm in the province’s Laersdrif area.

“According to the information received, a group of about 12 suspects arrived on the farm under the pretext that they wanted to buy a cow. When the farmer told them that he was no longer selling livestock, it is alleged that one of the suspects pulled out a firearm and fired some shots in the direction of the farmer but missed,” said Ledwaba in a statement.

After taking cover and shooting the suspect, the unnamed farmer was reportedly able to escape on a motorbike. Police and local farmers chased a white Toyota Corolla and white Toyota Quantum in which the suspects were attempting to escape.

The second suspect was shot during the chase, while the remainder of the group abandoned the vehicles and escaped. The two wounded suspects were reportedly in hospital under police guard.

The search for the remaining suspects is still ongoing and anyone who has any information as to their whereabouts is urged to call 086 001 0111.
