From its inauguration in April 2014 when it hosted 69 exhibitors and attracted more than 8 000 visitors over two 2 days, the three-day expo this year is expected to draw more than 15 000 visitors to view the offerings of 130 exhibitors.

Hosted by the Zambia National Farmers’ Union (ZNFU), this year’s Agritech Expo will be held from 14 – 16 April at the Gart Research Centre in Chisamba.

The expo’s event director, Liam Beckett, said that Agritech Expo had been embraced by Zambia’s farming community and by its government.

“[This year] we will have 130 exhibitors, including some of the leading international suppliers to the [Zambian] agriculture industry, 20 live crop trials and 11 machinery demonstration fields. There will also be an extended Livestock Zone, an Irrigation Zone, an SME Business Zone, 4 x 4 test track, a Sprayers Arena, and technical and practical workshops for emerging farmers as well as a VIP Business Lounge for commercial players,” said Beckett.

The ZNFU said that it was also proud of the fact that 14 German agricultural machinery and livestock equipment manufacturers and marketers would be exhibiting at the 2016 Agritech Expo.

Martin Botzian, spokesperson for the Deutsche Landwirtschafts-Gesellschaft (German Agricultural Society), said that the society was pleased to have been part of the Agritech Expo every year since its inception.

“Constantly we are growing our participation from year to year. And this year we successfully convinced the German Ministry of Agriculture to launch an official German pavilion,” Botzian said of the expo.
