He has been farming for five years and his operation includes sheep, cattle, maize, lucerne and cabbage. “Our young farmers are the future of South Africa’s food security. Without young farmers the economy cannot grow and there would be no future for agriculture,” says Heyns.

He has been farming with his farther for the past 12 years and his operation includes cattle, sheep, crops under irrigation and game. He is the fifth generation to farm on the land and hopes to preserve it for future generations.

DJ van der Linde (31), St Helena, Vierfontein
Van der Linde has been farming white and yellow maize, sunflower and cattle for eight years. “We are the farmers of tomorrow and we must ensure that our children provide food for South Africa,” he says.
