TürkTraktör, a joint venture between CNH (Fiat Industrial) and Turkey’s Koç Holding, a leading manufacturer of agricultural equipment since 1954, recently received an ISO 50001 certification. Developed by the International Organisation for Standardisation (ISO), the ISO 50001 enables an operation to follow a systematic approach to achieve a continuous improvement in its energy performance, including energy efficiency, use and consumption – all key to improving environmental sustainability.
TürkTraktör also received an ISO 14064 certification after implementing a set of tools and programmes aimed at measuring, quantifying and reducing greenhouse gas emissions in line with globally recognised standards. “The future and generations yet to come are of the utmost importance to us,” said TürkTraktör general manager Marco Votta. “With our motto of respect for the worker, the customer, and the environment at every stage, it gives us great pride to be the first company in our industry to meet both ISO 50001 and ISO 14064 standards.
“With the achievement of these two important standards, we’re reducing our energy expenditure, starting the era of carbon footprint quantification, and addressing climate change in the best way possible at TürkTraktör.” The TürkTraktör plant in Ankara, Turkey, manufactures New Holland’s TT, TD TDF, T4, TD3 and TD5 tractors as well as JX and Farmall C tractors for Case IH. In the first half of 2012, approximately 33% of the tractors manufactured at the plant were exported. The facility also produces transmissions and engines. Its products are exported to more than 90 countries worldwide.
New Holland TD series popular in SA
The New Holland TD series manufactured by TürkTraktör, and currently available in South Africa, comprises three straddle tractor models – the TD80, TD90 and TD95. The TD80 and TD90 are 2WD or 4WD; the TD95 is 4WD only. All are powered by New Holland 3,9l 4-cylinder engines, turbocharged in the 90 and 95 models, and rated at 59kW, 66kW and 72kW respectively.
The tractors have hydrostatic power steering and 12×12 transmissions with 540 and 540E PTOs. There are two external hydraulic valves on the TD80 and TD90 and three on the TD95. Draft sensing on the linkage is through the lower links; the lift capacity at the ball ends is 3 565kg. This competitively priced, powerful range is well suited to the SA market.
International standards
With the new ISO certification TürkTraktör has now achieved seven international standards. The other five are ISO 9001, for quality management systems, ISO 10002, for customer satisfaction, ISO 14001, for environmental management, OHSAS 18001, for health and safety and ISO 27001, for information security system management. The Ankara plant employs more than 2 000 people and now has the capacity to produce up to 35 000 tractors and 25 000 engines annually. In 2011, the factory celebrated the building of its 600 000th tractor.
