One of the country’s leading water researchers, microbiologist Prof Eugene Cloete, has been appointed as the new dean of the Faculty of Science at Stellenbosch University.

One of the country’s leading water researchers, microbiologist Prof Eugene Cloete, has been appointed as the new dean of the Faculty of Science at Stellenbosch University. Prof a formidable academic leader and a man who has made his mark as a researcher, is a specialist on water quality, water resource management, nanotechnology in water applications, public health, food microbiology and the purification of effluent and waste. H e is currently head of the university’s Department of Microbiology and Plant Pathology and chairperson of the School of Biological Sciences at the of Pretoria (UP). He is also a director of UP’s highly regarded Water Institute as well as its Edward de Bono of Creativity. Prof Cloete’s appointment is effective from 1 January 2009. – Staff reporter
