The false alarm is alarm systems’ greatest bugbear. It wastes time, causes stress and erodes confidence in the system. Other problems are reliability, resistance to tampering, upgradeability and maintenance. The Nedsis system is the solution. L ocally developed by Nedsis, it’s a modular system expandible and adaptable to the client’s needs, the level of security needed and nature of the area to be protected. Nedsis detects perimeter intrusions, giving early warning of the presence of an intruder.

Y et Nedsis is relatively simple to install, operate and maintain. Waterproof, dustproof and weatherproof, it can be buried or attached to a fence or wall. Protected by a polyethylene sheath, it resembles an irrigation pipe 5mm in diameter. Detect and serve When Nedsis is installed, a multimode fibre-optic cable is laid along the area perimeter. The system works by sending a laser light down this cable. If the perimeter is disturbed, the vibration is then detected by the return sensor of that particular zone and passed to the field/control processor for processing. A dvanced software compares this field to invalid fields that mustn’t set off the alarm. Nedsis doesn’t have to be programmed with the characteristics of valid fields, only invalid ones. When the system is programmed, it’s “taught” by deliberately exposing it to invalid situations, with their own characteristic fields: a stick run along the fence, the fence being tugged or shoved, or cats, dogs, birds or objects moving or lying on or against it. With the click of a mouse the processor is instructed to ignore these events.

M ore importantly, Nedsis detects activity conventional sensors would miss. The software can interpret multiple signals simultaneously – it can’t be confused by, say, someone climbing a fence during a thunderstorm. Nedsis doesn’t even require a physical barrier – a cable can be buried inconspicuously around the area’s perimeter. Nedsis’s unique software uses Artificial Intelligence to interpret the signals the sensors detect, helping the operator plan and execute the most appropriate action. Unlike other security systems, Nedsis interprets the information it detects. Sensor settings are automatic, and a low-level technician can replace modules. The sensors are highly reliable even when Nedsis isn’t fully operational, and upgrade costs are low. Once the system has been fully trained, false alarms are very rare. Nedsis is relatively simple to install, operate and maintain. The system is supported by Ethernet, RS232 and 486 ports. – Chris Nel Contact Auriel Mitchley on (011) 889 0796 or e-mail [email protected]. |fw
