The 73rd edition of SIMA, the biennial Paris-based international agribusiness show, was bigger and better than ever. With over 1 300 exhibitors, the show, which has been going since 1922, showcases the world’s leading tractor and equipment manufacturers. Twenty-five percent of the more than 200 000 visitors are international from five continents and 107 different countries. Visitors from Central and Eastern Europe have increased by more than 31% since 2005.

Pride of place on the Case IH stand went to the latest Puma CVX. Five new models ranging from 125kW to 168kW were introduced. The Puma range has been designed to provide consistent high performance, efficiency and operator comfort. It features the latest generation Case IH CVX continuously variable transmission and new DKT double clutch technology. The double clutch ensures optimal power transmission without ever interrupting the flow of power, resulting in maximum efficiency. At the same time, it reduces fuel consumption.

The Puma CVX provides the driver with the most modern and comfortable working environment. The new Surround Vision cab has excellent all-round visibility and with a noise rating of only 69dB, it’s one of the quietest cabs on the market.

The latest Puma CVX has a newly developed control concept. The centre of this is a new edition of the Multicontroller and an Intuitive Control Panel. The ergonomic armrest control incorporates the proven right-hand shuttle and simple control of fast raising and lowering of the lower linkage. Additional features include the Fuel Saver engine performance management system and the optional AFS Pro 300 touchscreen, which incorporates Isobus, to further enhance performance and efficiency.
In a special exhibition on the Sima stand, Case IH experts provided information on the application of the Case IH Advanced Farming System (AFS). For the 2009 season, it’s been equipped with new software providing considerable extension to the available functions.

This means harvest analysis, running cost statistics, seedbed preparation, plant protection and pest control can now be recorded and planned with more precision. In addition, the software enables all field data to be displayed on standardised aerial photos.

The new AFS Pro Monitor is designed for use in both tractors and combine harvesters. It provides the means to control vehicle settings, guidance systems and Isobus-compatible equipment from a single unit. It can also save all the data acquired from precision farming operations.

An extended range of guidance methods was also introduced.Case IH is looking for young farmers with vision and ideas, by means of a pan-European competition. This is the first time it has hosted the Agri-Future 2020 competition, where participants are asked to present their ideas and suggestions for making agriculture more efficient by 2020. Any farming theme can be chosen from agricultural technology to plant science, farming crops or rearing livestock. |fw
