Struggling poultry projects in Limpopo have been given a shot in the arm.
The provincial agriculture department has spent R18 million to revitalise eight poultry projects in the Greater Tzaneen municipality. “If these farmers fail this time around, God will judge them,” said agriculture MEC Dikeledi Magadzi when she officially launched the projects in Nkowankowa near Tzaneen on 27 September. She said the projects had been struggling because of a lack of agricultural production and business management skills and support. As part of the revitalisation programme, the department has built climate-controlled broiler houses, each with a carrying capacity of 40 000 chickens.
he department also helped the farmers secure a deal to supply an abattoir in Tzaneen with 320 000 chickens a month. The farmers were trained in bookkeeping, animal production and project management. – African Eye News Service
