Gerard Braak Sr died last month after a long illness. Braak was an active member of the organised pig industry between 1950 and 1990, inter alia as chairperson of the then Transvaal Pig Development Association, a position he held for many years.

Braak was an active member of the organised pig industry between 1950 and 1990, inter alia as chairperson of the then Transvaal Pig Development Association, a position he held for many years. H e was also chairperson of the National Development which later became the South African Pork Producers’ Organisation. He was one of the first SA producers to use AI on pigs. Braak was a member of the Meat Board for 30 years and a director of many companies such as Eskort and Abacor. nother former member of the Samic board, Prof JC van Zyl, widower of Hildegard van Zyl of Sancu, has also passed away after a long battle against cancer. – Staff reporter
