Klein Karoo International (KKI) Abattoir in Oudtshoorn was named the best agricultural business in the southern Cape for the past 12 months, at a recent Professional Management Review (PMR) event in Mossel Bay. KKI Abattoir is the main processing facility of KKI’s ostrich products. It’s managed according to Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points (HACCP) guidelines and EU export requirements.

The popularity of KKI’s Blou Volstruis brand increased 50% over the past 12 months. Volumes have grown five-fold since its launch in 2005. The abattoir was also praised for its role in stimulating the economic development of the area. PMR Africa facilitates this annual evaluation of businesses. The award aims to highlight a specific area as an investment opportunity for local and international investors. “We evaluate a business in terms of its management skills and brand presence in the consumer market,” explained Johan Hattingh, PRM Africa marketing director. – Wouter Kriel
