SJ “TAllie” Taljaard has been racing pigeons since 1958. From 2002 to 2005 he was a member of the River Park Specialist Racing Pigeon Club, under the Golden Reef Pigeon Association (GRPA). At club level Tallie scooped first, second and third (twice) in the points league competition. In the GRPA competition he scored sixth, eighth, 10th and 14th. During these four years he also scored over 300 positions.
He joined the Kempton Park Racing Pigeon Club in 2006, scored 11 firsts and 18 second places and was Club Champion of the Points Champions league in 2006 and 2007. One of his pigeons won R25 000 in a Transvaal Homing Union race.
Competing in shows on a small scale, Tallie has won numerous first prizes against experienced fanciers. At the regional show at Nasrec he scored high against the country’s best fanciers.
is winning pigeons are mainly old Scott Putterie strains obtained from SA champion André Underhay. Other bloodlines used include the Belgian strains of Karel Meulemans, Piet Manders Janssens, “De Klak” Janssens and the Hermans/Fihrens strain.
