Trip down memory lane

Caxton Magazines

I was reading the Farmer’s Weekly of April 20 when I came across an item on your ‘Archive’ page entitled ‘Deafness in a horse’, written by PJA Lombard and published on 7 October 1914.

PJA Lombard is my father. He was 22 years old at the time and was farming with his father, Hans Jurgens Lombard, one of the biggest wool farmers in the Karoo back then. In the 100th anniversary issue of FW I wrote that the magazine was the first I had read in 1932 at the age of six. My father must have been one of the first subscribers. Thanks George for bringing back some history.
