The united kingdom has pledged its commitment to developing environmental labelling for food.
UK environment secretary David Miliband said it is likely the environmental quality of food will affect decision-making in food purchases. “can envisage the next step where, as well as nutritional standards, environmental standards become the norm on food packaging,” he said. Miliband has requested that the Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs work with producers, retailers, environmental organisations and existing assurance bodies to agree on a “green standard” to inform and empower consumers and give farmers recognition in the market place. said despite the growing market for “ ethical” food, it is vital that consumer fatigue does not set in. – Wilma den Hartigh
