One of the biggest drawcards is the accommodation offered in six eight-sleeper and six four-sleeper log cabins.

The town of Belfast is about 13km from Lakenvlei, and Dullstroom is approximately 25km away. A scenic drive to any of these two towns is worthwhile, and visitors can dine in good restaurants, do shopping, or have access to top fly-fishing destinations.

Be sure to visit the Bergen Cheese outlet in Dullstroom, and find out about visiting the farm to learn more about cheese-making. Birdwatching, day hiking trails, horse riding for beginners as well as experienced riders through 4 500ha of plantations, fly-fishing, and mountain biking is part of the Lakenvlei experience.

In winter, with temperatures averaging around 3˚C, visitors will find a neatly stacked pile of dry pine wood outside their cabins, to light a cozy fire in the fireplace.

Gerhard Uys grew up as a real city lad, but spends his free time hiking and visiting family farms. He learnt the journalism trade as a freelance writer and photographer in the lifestyle industry, but having decided that he will be a cattle farmer by the age of 45 he now indulges his passion for farming by writing about agriculture. He feels Farmer’s Weekly is a platform for both developed and emerging farmers to learn additional farming skills and therefore takes the job of relaying practical information seriously.
