Regional Ploughing Competitions are now held all over South Africa. The first two places at each event qualify to compete at the National Championships at Grain SA’s NAMPO Harvest Day. The winner at NAMPO will become the new South African Ploughing Champion and will have the chance to compete at next year’s World Ploughing Competition.

The video showcases Daniel de Pontes at the KwaZulu-Natal regional competition held at Weston Agricultural College at Mooi River in the KZN Midlands.

On his farm in Weenen, Daniel ploughs with a 2 furrow Kverneland reversible plough, for many years this has been the plough of choice for the majority of the winners of National and International competitions. In these conditions he found it heavy going with the more basic ploughs that are currently the only ones used for South African competitions.
