The organisation’s spokesperson, Dr Gerhard Verdoorn, said it was essential to only use prescribed products in order to protect indigenous migrant bird species such as white storks, Abdim’s storks and kestrels, as well as reptile species to prevent an ecological disaster.

“Birds such as the storks prey on these insects and play a vital role in keeping outbreaks in check,” said Verdoorn.

CropLife SA consists of suppliers of agricultural chemical products and promotes environmentally friendly pest management.
