Konsortium-Merino hosts record-breaking auction

Konsortium-Merino’s production sale on 3 September on the farm Dombietersfontein in Victoria-West set new SA records.

Some 345 rams were sold, which is the largest number of rams ever sold at a Merino auction. The rams were sold for an average price of R6 467 each.

A ram bought by Wesley Vos from Loxton fetched the highest price of R42 000, and the second highest amount, R32 000, was paid for two rams sold to Jannie Swiegers, from Orange Grove in the Eastern Cape.

Turnover achieved overtook previous figures. This was also the first time that Konsortium-Merino broke through the R2 million mark, with R2 230 950 in earnings.

The highest price achieved for pregnant branded ewes was R2 050/ewe. These went to Pietie Roux from Noblesfontein Wind Energy in Victoria West.
