Potatoes SA Transformation Symposium 2018

‘Approaching potato farming as a successful business venture’ is the theme for the 5th Potatoes South Africa Transformation Symposium taking place on 7 June 2018 at the Saint George Hotel in Gauteng.

According to a statement by Potatoes SA, Bernhardt Du Toit, chairperson of the Potatoes South Africa Transformation Committee, will discuss Potatoes South Africa’s vision for transformation.

Du Toit will speak about the progress made and the successes achieved in the potato industry as far as transformation is concerned.

“The aim of the Transformation Symposium is to create a platform, firstly for emerging Black potato producers and community project leaders to meet, discuss challenges, find solutions and plan the road ahead, and secondly for role players in the potato value chain to meet and be part of the solution in our quest to assist emerging Black potato producers to evolve into fully-fledged commercial potato producers,” said the statement.

Dr Theo de Jager, president of the World Farmers’ Organisation (WFO) will deliver the keynote address.

Commercial farmer, Solly Ratsomane, will share his journey on how he became a successful potato commercial farmer, while his mentor, Ron Gever, will give his perspective on what’s needed to succeed in the potato industry.

The first ever Enterprise Development Farmer of the Year will be announced at a gala dinner on the evening.
