Their family believe the missing pilots made an emergency landing in or near the Gorognosa National Park, and they are offering reward to farmers and villagers in Mozambique who may have seen or heard the aircraft and who can help searchers find the men.
Bryan and Robert were ferrying a Baron 58 light twin-engine aircraft from Uganda to South Africa. The plane had a full fuel tank and wasn’t carrying any cargo when it developed engine trouble after flying over Tete in Mozambique.
The pilot said he was diverting to Beira. Shortly thereafter, he reported that he would be ceasing radio contact to focus on flying and was not heard from again.
Bryan Simms is an experienced and popular SA pilot. Many friends and colleagues have offered to assist in the search, which, as noted, is being concentrated on the Gorongosa area, but the region is remote and mountainous and local information is vital.
The family is most desperate to find their loved ones. For further information and to offer leads for the search please contact Britt Stevens at [email protected].
