The attack took place on Sunday night (5 March) on the farm Swartfontein between Warden and Verkykerskop. Three suspects are still at large at the time of going to print, according to a Free State Agriculture (FSA).

The suspects apparently demanded money from Steyn and stabbed him during the incident. They escaped with his bakkie and cellphone. Steyn called for help from a hidden phone he kept in his house.

FSA CEO Henk Vermeulen condemned the incident, saying it was the second farm attack in the province in a week.
