LBG Holdings and York Safaris marketed game jointly as Golden Breeders. Fountains tinkled along with champagne at the impressive new venue, where it appears no cost has been spared to make sure that animals and buyers are catered for at the highest level.

The entrance to the impressive new game auction venue, Castle De Wildt, outside Modimolle (Nylstroom). Castle De Wildt is easily accessible by road from the N1 en route to Modimolle.

Every possible attempt has been made in the design of the game holding pens to accommodate the needs and comfort of the animals. To minimise stress on game, while affording optimal visual access, viewing walkways are positioned above the spacious pens. Castle De Wildt looks set to attract investors and tourists to the area, in the heart of the Waterberg’s thriving game breeding industry.

Enormous elephant cows with their calves flank the building and guard the entrance to the interior court. On either side of the elephants are the animal handling facilities.

Prices were good, spurred by the quality of the game offered and perhaps by the upbeat mood o

f the buyers. The auction, managed by Vleissentraal Bosveld, showed a total turnover of R31.3 million – A notable start for this facility and the clear commitment to the game industry of farmers Bernard Groenewald and Barry York. Among the animals on offer were Golden wildebeest, Zambian sable, Black impala, nyala and bushbuck. The highest price of R800 000 was obtained for a Golden wildebeest bull.

After the auction the upbeat crowd enjoyed the hospitality of Golden Breeders (the sellers) and the mid-winter sunshine.
