This week Tech Terrain focuses on the future of technology, and more specifically, efficiencies. The discussion also follows the developments in soil and water management and mechanisation.

Coupled with technological advancement, suitable skills are required to manage these technologies on the farm.

Tony Ndoro talks to IB Oosthuizen, agriculture director of McCain Foods South Africa and Ernest Beck, director of Peritum Agri Institute about the optimisation of technology for greater efficiencies, as well as the need for high-level training to implement the latest technology.

Tech Terrain also looks at how technology can have an impact on managing natural resources like soil and water.

In this episode, the team visits Koos Mthimkulu, Grain SA’s Developing Farmer of the Year in 2011 and his son, Clifford who is nowadays largely responsible for their farming operation in Senekal. This father-son combination runs a very successful fleet of agricultural machinery that they built up over the years and maintains in tiptop condition.

Stephan Nel, Marketing Manager at John Deere Sub-Saharan Africa (JD SSA) and Vikar Sheopershad, Territory Customer Support Manager chat about the evolution of agricultural technology, and what can be expected in the future.
