Viljoenskroon – The Huntersvlei and Pothou Sussex auction was held on 7 August on the farm Huntersvlei. A total of 465 Sussex animals were on offer. The highest-priced bull was sold for R150 000 by Rhys Evans Group (Pty) Ltd to George Potgieter of Leeudoringstad. Of the 57 bulls, 55 were sold at an average of R35 909.
A South African record price was achieved for a cow sold for R55 000 by Rhys Evans Group to Leeuwpan 58/Rohan Meintjies of Rant en Dal. Four cows were sold at an average of R33 250. The most expensive cow and calf was sold for R32 000 by Rhys Evans Group to Wood Basket (Pty) Ltd/Hogart Gevers of Vryheid. Six cows and calves were sold at an average price of R21 333.
A total of 93 commercial cows were sold at an average price of R8 994, while 67 cows and calves were sold at an average price of R10 761, and 157 heifers were sold at an average price of R7 915. This sale was conducted by Clive Gardner Auctioneers, with Clive Gardner as the auctioneer.
