Cold weekend coming

With a strong cold front expected over SA this weekend, the SA Weather Service issued warnings of high winds and the possibility of runaway veld fires over much of the country.

Warnings of high winds and possible flooding were issued in the Western Cape and the western parts of the Eastern Cape, while veld fire warnings were issued for the Eastern Cape interior, southern and western Free State, eastern parts of the Northern Cape and the western parts of North West.

The north-eastern parts of the country today (28 August) experienced mild to warm weather, with Johannesburg’s maximum temperature at 25°C, BelaBela at 31°C, Durban at 29°C and Mthatha at 30°C.

The south-western parts of the country, however, were already feeling the influence of the coming cold front. Cape Town’s maximum temperature today was 13°C, while George peaked at 15°C and Springbok in the Northern Cape had a maximum of 9°C.
