DAFF engages with De Doorns community

Agriculture minister Senzeni Zokwana and his deputy, Bheki Cele, met the De Doorns community on Monday to show that the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries was ready to participate with all stakeholders in agriculture.

In November last year, Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa had committed to tackling the agricultural industry’s challenges of poverty, poor living conditions, exploitation and eviction of farmworkers.

Decent housing and health care services for farmworkers were also on the agenda, Zokwana said in statement.

An intervention which profiled the best farming practices and working relationships, modelled by a working farm could be replicated on other farms in the country, he said.

The department would also award bursaries to deserving students in the Western Cape.
